Paul Dongha

Paul Dongha has often been regarded as a visionary in the realm of AI and technological advancement, particularly within the financial services sector. As the inaugural Head of Data & AI Ethics at Lloyds Banking Group, one of the UK’s largest banks, he has been pivotal in shaping AI systems and formulating policies, principles, and regulations on an international scale. Paul took on the role of Head of Derivatives Product Control at HSBC, and later as IT Project Manager for the Finance Transformation Programme, he led the development of a centralised Finance Accounting Rules platform. His roles have spanned various capacities including Climate Risk IT Program Manager at HSBC, and IT Director at both Commerzbank and Credit Suisse. Notably, in 2021, as AI Ethics & Principal Researcher at Fujitsu Research of Europe, he led initiatives addressing bias and discrimination in AI systems.

Educated at the University of Manchester, Paul holds a BSc in Computer Science, an MSc in Advanced Computer System Design, and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. His career trajectory includes critical roles that showcased his thought leadership and his knack for developing high-performance systems that leverage big data. His journey in the banking sector began at ABN AMRO Bank as the Head of Credit Risk Systems, followed by a significant stint as Programme Manager of Risk, Banking, Treasury & Trade Finance at Standard Bank.
