Paul Dongha is one of the most influential voices working at the intersection of cyber security and artificial intelligence, known for helping organisations grasp how AI systems reshape their threat landscape. He brings long experience from global banks, research labs and major technology programmes, which allows him to explain cyber risk with unusual clarity. His work focuses on the tension between rapid AI deployment and the growing exposure it creates, particularly around privacy, model security and data integrity. During one recent keynote he described how a single generative model can mimic internal staff writing styles to fuel highly convincing phishing attacks, a practical example that often shifts how leaders think about cyber defence.
Paul began his journey with a BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Advanced Computer System Design before completing a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. His early career placed him inside some of the world’s largest financial institutions, where security and accuracy shaped every decision. He held senior posts including Head of Credit Risk Systems at ABN AMRO, Head of Derivatives Product Control at HSBC, Climate Risk IT Programme Manager at HSBC, and IT Director roles at Commerzbank and Credit Suisse. Each role demanded strong oversight of high performance, data heavy systems, giving Paul a deep understanding of where operational and cyber threats emerge in complex environments.
He later moved into more specialised AI governance and ethical risk leadership, which broadened his reputation as a trusted advisor on secure technology adoption. As AI Ethics and Principal Researcher at Fujitsu Research of Europe, Paul led work on bias, discrimination and the security flaws created by poorly governed systems. His influence expanded further when he became Group Head of Data and AI Ethics at Lloyds Banking Group, where he shaped responsible AI frameworks for one of the UK’s largest financial institutions. Today he serves as Head of Responsible AI and AI Strategy at NatWest Group, guiding senior leaders on secure AI integration, governance controls and long term resilience. He also co authored the acclaimed book ‘Governing the Machine’, which offers practical guidance on managing AI risk.
Paul’s keynotes blend technical insight with real world experience, helping audiences understand why cyber security must evolve alongside AI capability. He speaks plainly and with purpose, explaining how attackers are using AI to strengthen their tactics and how organisations can counter these threats through responsible design, staff literacy and strong governance. His sessions give teams a clear view of the challenges ahead and the confidence to build secure, ethical systems that can withstand rapid technological change.
