For the past three decades, Charlie McMurdie has forged a respectable career in law enforcement and cybercrime – best known for her role as the former Head of the Police National Cyber Crime Unit for the Metropolitan Police. A highly esteemed advisor on cyber security and cybercrime, Charlie served an impressive 30+ years in the Metropolitan Police, ensuring that the public was protected against the country’s most malicious criminals. Now hired as a cyber security speaker, Charlie uses her experience protecting the country from cybercrime to inform her speeches on how best to prepare for the eventuality of cybercrime.

Highly acclaimed for her ability in generating strategies to confront the impact of cybercrime, Charlie began her career in the police force back in 1981. Appointed as the Head of Law Enforcement and the Police Central e-Crime Unit, Charlie was responsible for the national cybercrime capability and undertaking investigations of cybercrime that had a national impact on the UK. Working at New Scotland Yard for 31 years, Charlie worked tirelessly to establish regional cybercrime units, industry task forces and regional forensic capabilities. In 2013, Charlie retired from the Police force and began working for PwC UK.

As a Senior Cyber Crime Advisor for PwC UK, Charlie provided strategic advice on cyber security across PwC’s Forensics, Risk Assurance and Legal services. Also in 2013, Charlie launched her own consultancy, currently the Owner of Achilleon Consultancy Ltd, specialising in cyber security. Other prominent roles of Charlie’s include conducting covert operations as a Detective of the National Crime Squad, working with both the International Criminal Police Organization and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation as the UK Lead on Cybercrime and on Breach Aid for PwC. Charlie has also been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Cyber Security Centre at Warwick University and was inducted into the Infosec Hall of Fame.

Having secured £32 million to build the Police Central e-Crime Unit, it is without question that Charlie is one of the most preeminent authorities on cybercrime in the UK. Working tirelessly to protect the country from the hands of malicious cyber criminals, Charlie is now highly sought after to share her expertise as a cyber security speaker at industry events. Sharing real-world examples of cybercrime, and the measures of cyber security needed to protect against such crime, Charlie is also sought to regularly appear across regional and national television broadcasts.
