Chris Kelly has enjoyed a distinguished career in technology, law and public policy, best known as the former Chief Privacy Officer of Facebook and Facebook’s 25th employee. Pioneering the safety and security features of the social media giant, Chris is widely to thank for the safe and secure use of Facebook we see today. Chris has also forged success as a member of the staff of Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign. Now hired as a cyber security speaker, Chris emphasises the importance of cyber security in a successful business.
Having achieved a Master’s in Political Theory from Yale University and a J.D degree from Harvard Law School, Chris joined the staff of Bill Clinton’s race to become president, appointed as the Policy Advisor to the United States Domestic Policy Council and Department of Education. Pioneering advancements in domestic programmes and putting 100,000 new police officers onto the streets of America, Chris solidified his reputation in American politics. Chris also played a significant role in introducing AmeriCorps, an initiative dedicated to improving the environment, health, education and public safety.
Chris has also worked as a Federal Judge for Barry Moskowitz and practised privately with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Baker & McKenzie. As a lawyer, Chris has represented Netscape during their Microsoft antitrust case, as well as ground-breaking suits over the first MP3 player. Leaving his work as a federal judge, Chris went on to become Silicon Valley’s first Chief Privacy Officer at Kendra, Spoke Software and Excited@Home. In 2005, Chris joined Facebook to work as their Chief Privacy Officer, General Counsel, Head of Global Public Policy and Vice President of Corporate Development. During his time with Facebook, Chris worked tirelessly on the cyber security of the site, ensuring that user’s private information was kept secure from cyber criminals. Developing Facebook’s security policies around real-world law enforcement, Chris is widely accredited for Facebooks continued success.
After standing for election of Attorney General of California, Chris has moved to focus his attentions on philanthropy and investments. He is currently the Co-Owner of NBA’s Sacramento Kings and has pioneered developments as a primary proponent of the California Proposition 35 Ballot Initiative. Now hired as a keynote speaker for corporate and industry events, Chris shares his expertise on cyber security as the former Chief Privacy Officer of Facebook.
